About the luthier
The Carrillo family began building guitars in 1744 in Casasimarro, a village in the region of Manchuela Conquense historically known as “El pueblo de las guitarras” – the town of guitars. Vicente Carrillo represents the seventh generation of this lineage. Still based in the original workshop, he has received both the Regional Craftsmanship Award (2009) and the Spanish National Award (2010) for his contribution to the art of lutherie. His guitars are known for their balance between clear, well-defined basses and sweet, lyrical trebles. Innovation plays a central role in his approach, with an openness to new methods and materials that support tonal refinement. Vicente Carrillo’s instruments have been played by a wide range of artists, including Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, J.M. Cañizares, El Niño Josele, Rafael Cañizares, Javier Limón, Keith Richards, and Josemi Carmona.
About the guitar
The Maestro NX model is the result of a collaboration between Vicente Carrillo and Gernot Wagner, one of the key figures in the development of double-top guitars. Built in 2025, this instrument features a cedar double-top with a Nomex core and Indian rosewood back and sides. The design includes reinforced sides that contribute to structural stability and acoustic projection. The result is a guitar with exceptional volume, yet one that retains Carrillo’s hallmark balance and refinement. The voice is rounded and warm, with extended sustain and a clear separation of voices across the dynamic spectrum. The responsiveness is immediate, allowing subtle phrasing at low volumes while supporting powerful, expansive playing when pushed. Tonal colours develop easily, making the instrument highly adaptable to a wide range of expressive demands. Despite its modern construction, the Maestro NX maintains a distinctly Spanish tonal identity, shaped by Carrillo’s deep musical sensibility and craftsmanship.

How do I properly care for my classical guitar?
A classical guitar requires constant humidity between 45 and 55 percent. Store the instrument in its case with a humidifier, avoid direct sunlight and large temperature fluctuations. Change the strings regularly and clean the guitar with a soft microfiber cloth.
