The Carrillo family’s guitar-making tradition reaches back to 1744 in Casasimarro, in the Spanish region of Manchuela Conquense, a town whose long association with the craft earned it the nineteenth-century nickname “El pueblo de las Guitarras” – the town of guitars. Vicente Carrillo represents the seventh generation of the family and continues to build in the same place. His work combines this inherited tradition with an active interest in contemporary construction methods, always seeking greater response, balance and carrying power. Carrillo received a Regional Craftsmanship Award in 2009 and a National Award in 2010. His instruments have been played by musicians including Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, Cañizares, El Niño Josele, Rafael Cañizares, Javier Limón, Keith Richards and Josemi Carmona.

The Gabriela II is Vicente Carrillo’s modern double-top concert model, conceived to combine immediate response with sustained, well-balanced resonance. In this 63 cm spruce version, the sound is notably round and supple, with a generous overtone field surrounding the fundamental.
