Walter Verreydt - 2023 Lattice

Walter Verreydt - 2023 Lattice

Overview

Walter Verreydt is a highly regarded classical guitar maker known for his passion for music and woodworking expertise. Born in Lier in 1958, he began his career as a teacher in woodworking and technical drawing. However, his love for classical guitar led him to find his true calling in constructing musical instruments. From the beginning, he is inspired by the works of noted guitar makers like Bouchet, Fleta, Hernandez-Aguado, José Romanillos, and Daniel Friederich. He also studied Spanish guitar-making traditions and techniques in Granada through his friendship with German guitar maker Rolf Eichinger.

In addition to his workshop, Walter played an essential role in the education of young guitar makers. He taught at the Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw in Belgium from 1988 to 2020, where he imparted not only the basic techniques of guitar making but also a deep love for the craft and attention to detail. He was also a member of the Leonardo Guitar Research Project, which focused on sustainable non-tropical woods. Walter is one of the founders of the Cordefactum Festival, where luthiers from around the world come together for workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and concerts. He uses only the best, sustainably-sourced woods for his guitars, which are renowned for their quality and craftsmanship and are used by top guitar players worldwide.
This 2023 Walter Verreydt guitar is the quintessence of a classical concert guitar, sophisticated and complete. This guitar has a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. This instrument also features Walter Verreydt's latest mosaic design in the rosette, adding to the beauty of this already exceptional instrument. The intricate and subtle update to the rosette's mosaic design showcases the luthier's constant pursuit of excellence and is a stunning feat of refinement and mastery of craftsmanship.
This guitar offers excellent volume and responsiveness, with a rich and delicate ground tone and endless dynamic possibilities. The wood-only lattice bracing adds to the wide range of tonal colors, making this guitar a concert-worthy instrument. Moreover, the first E-string has such liveliness and freedom that it unfolds its singing voice with impressive ease. The balance and sustain combined with the excellent playability make this guitar a true standout in its class.
This 2023 Walter Verreydt is truly special and highly recommended for any player seeking a superior and inspiring guitar. It is a testament to the luthier's personal growth and ongoing studies.

Poem about Walter Verreydt and this 2023 lattice guitar

Walter Verreydt, a maker of note,
His passion for music and wood he devoted.
In Lier he was born, a year of 1958,
Teacher of woodwork, a skillful hand he had.

But the classical guitar called him to his fate,
Instruments he built, his true love to create.
Inspired by masters, Bouchet, Fleta and more,
He honed his craft, and Spanish techniques he explored.

Teacher at heart, to young makers he taught,
At Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw he brought,
Not only skills, but a love for the craft,
And an eye for detail, no detail to be left.

Sustainability was his cause, with woods so bright,
He co-founded Cordefactum Festival, gathering light,
Luthiers from far and wide, to share, to teach, to play,
Their art and their passion, for all to see and say.

This 2023 Walter Verreydt guitar is a sight,
With spruce top and rosewood, a classical delight.
The rosette, a mosaic, the luthier's latest find,
A refinement, a mastery, of the musical kind.

It sings with volume, with responsiveness too,
With a rich and delicate tone, its colors true.
Lattice bracing in wood, a range of tonal hue,
A concert-worthy instrument, in sound and look so new.

The first E-string, alive with ease and grace,
Its singing voice unfolds, a stunning sight to face.
Balance and sustain, with playability so fair,
This Walter Verreydt is a standout, beyond compare.

This 2023 guitar is special, truly one of a kind,
A testament to growth, to ongoing study and mind.
For players seeking the best, an inspiring choice,
This Walter Verreydt, a masterpiece, with a joyful voice.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
