Description
Born in 1976 Karel Dedain built his first guitar in 1998. He lives and works in Gent, Belgium. His passion for playing the Flamenco guitar awakened his interest in guitar building. He studied at the CMP (Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw) with Walter Verreydt, and since 2006 making guitars has been his main job. Karel is specialized in classical and Flamenco guitars. Furthermore, he teaches guitar making at the center of musical instrument building in Puurs, Belgium, together with Walter Verreydt. Karel makes about ten guitars a year, all of them completely handmade. One of his specialties is his French polish finish. His philosophy is to not invent everything new but to make use of the best ideas of historic luthiers, such as Torres, Garcia, Arias and Hernandez.
The gorgeously bright spruce top of this 2017 model contrasts wonderfully with the dark rosewood back and sides as well as with the lovely, detailed rosette, and shines in precious splendor due to the magnificent shellac finish. The guitar has a balsa lattice bracing reinforced with carbon fiber. It has a great direct response and is pleasantly easy to play. The sound is exquisitely round and strong, balanced and harmonic. The body air resonance is between F and F#. The tuners are made by Sloane. A Hiscox hard-shell case is included.
