Alberto Mesirca

Alberto Mesirca

The American Record Guide praised his Scarlatti as “The best Scarlatti I’ve heard on solo guitar”, and Classical Guitar Magazine wrote: “Superb recording from the prodigiously talented Mesirca”.

The Italian guitarist Alberto Mesirca was born in 1984.

He completed his Bachelor and Master of Arts at the Conservatory of Castelfranco Veneto in the class of Gianfranco Volpato, finishing with the highest score, summa cum laude and a special honor mention. He continued his studies at the Music Academy of Kassel in Germany with Wolfgang Lendle, where his Konzert-Examen was awarded the highest honors. He received the “Golden Guitar” three times: for Best Recording in 2007, as Best Upcoming Artist of the Year in 2009, and again for Best Recording in 2013.

In collaboration with Hopkinson Smith and Franco Pavan, he published previously unknown compositions by Francesco da Milano found in the Castelfranco Veneto 1565 Lute Manuscript, now distributed by Orphee Editions. This rediscovery inspired Dusan Bogdanovic to compose “Tre Ricercari sulla Compagna” for Mesirca.

Through hundreds of concerts he has worked with musicians such as Dimitri Ashkenazy, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Martin Rummel, Daniel Rowland, Domenico Nordio, Marco De Santi, Andras Adorjan, Peter and Jonas Giger, Mirko Satto, and ensembles including the Enesco, Ardeo and Acies string quartets, Quartetto d’Archi di Venezia, ChamberJam Europe and Ex Novo Ensemble.

In collaboration with Marc Ribot he recorded the complete guitar works of Haitian composer Frantz Casséus. In December 2011 he was responsible for the digitalization and creation of the musical archive of the Beyazit Library in Istanbul.

At the 2013 Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival he premiered a composition written for him by Leo Brouwer. In 2014 he performed at venues including the City Hall of Helsinki, for the Guitar Foundation of America in Los Angeles (premiering Angelo Gilardino’s “Due Ritratti Italiani”), at the Italian Institutes of Culture in San Francisco and Stockholm, at the international chamber music festivals of Stift, Kuhmo and Lessines, for Semana Tarrega in Valencia, in New York with Marc Ribot and with the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Ecuador.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
