Originally from Portugal, André Ferreira completed his bachelor’s degree with the highest mark and honor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo in Spain, studying with the distinguished teacher Margarita Escarpa. He later continued his education at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt in Germany under Tilman Hoppstock and completed a Master’s degree at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Graz in Austria with Paolo Pegoraro.
Throughout his musical development, André participated in numerous masterclasses with renowned teachers and received several national and international awards. These include the 1st Prize in the Young Category at the XI International Guitar Competition “José Tomás” Villa de Petrer (Spain, 2012), the Calendura Prize at the X International Guitar Competition “Ciutat d’Elx” (Spain, 2012), the 1st Prize at the International Guitar Competition in Leiria (Portugal, 2011), as well as the Honorific Prize “David Russell” and the Special Prize “José Tomás” (Spain, 2010).
André Ferreira has performed in Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Portugal, both as a soloist and together with orchestras, presenting a repertoire that reflects his artistic versatility and international experience.
He has since completed master's degrees in both guitar and lute and studied further with Ricardo Gallén in Weimar. Now based in Vienna, André Ferreira performs as both guitarist and lutenist — including with ensembles such as Concentus Musicus Wien and Bach Consort Wien — and released his debut album Sonatas in 2018.
Performing at Siccas Guitars
Every classical guitarist who performs at Siccas Guitars brings a distinct musical path to the instrument — shaped by years of study, competition experience, and the particular musical tradition they have chosen to inhabit. The classical guitar demands sustained technical commitment and a deep engagement with a repertoire that spans from the Renaissance through to works written for living performers. It is an instrument whose full possibilities only reveal themselves over time.
