BitterGreen
The name BitterGreen is inspired by a romantic and melancholic song by Canadian singer and musical storyteller Gordon Lightfoot. This choice reflects the project’s focus on songs that tell stories and create vivid images.
Many of the pieces in the repertoire explore human experiences. In Silver Thunderbird, Marc Cohn sings about his father and the legendary Ford Thunderbird in which he imagines being buried. The country artist Garth Brooks reflects in If Tomorrow Never Comes on the fear of never having expressed love clearly enough. Joshua Kadison’s Painted Desert Serenade tells the touching story of two elderly people escaping loneliness through shared fantasies and deciding that life still holds possibilities.
The right balance is essential. The repertoire ranges from dreamy and melancholic songs such as Tuck & Patti’s love anthem Takes My Breath Away to groovy acoustic versions of disco classics like More Than a Woman by the Bee Gees. Pop standards such as Billy Joel’s You’re My Home appear in unusual arrangements, including performances with guest musician Andreas Mack on accordion.
BitterGreen does not limit itself to guitar folk. Songs originally written for other ensembles, such as Cool Change by the Little River Band or works by Tom Waits and the Eagles, are reinterpreted and arranged in a distinctive way.
Let yourself be surprised.
