Education

In June 2017, Maria Mayr completed her Bachelor of Arts with Susanna Ehn-Riebl at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, majoring in choir and ensemble conducting. She is currently studying with Detlef Mielke and pursuing her Master’s degree at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.

Maria Mayr received her first cello lessons at the age of 5 with Anna Kiesenhofer and later with Elisabeth Ragl. During her youth, she won several 1st prizes at the prima la musica youth competition, both as a soloist and in chamber music categories.

Musical Interests

Alongside her passion for classical music, she is also interested in South American music, jazz and popular music, as well as contemporary dance theater. In 2013, she performed in chamber music formation in the modern ballet Schwanengesang at the Musiktheater Linz. In 2016, she participated in the jazz program for string players at the Anton Bruckner Private University.

Orchestral and Ensemble Experience

In 2012, she served as principal cellist at the special foundation concert where young talents performed with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. From 2013 to 2016, she was principal cellist of the Upper Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra, performing works such as Bruckner’s 6th and 8th Symphonies at the St. Florian Bruckner Days under Remy Ballot. In 2017, she played with the Young Philharmonic of Lower Saxony under Andreas Schüller.

During her Erasmus stay in 2015/16 in Trieste, she studied with Pietro Serafin and performed with the Quintetto Florestan.

Concert Activity

She has performed in Italy, Spain, Bosnia, Austria, and Germany.

Masterclasses

She has attended courses with Enrico Bronzi, Heidi Litschauer, Dalena Roux, Giovanni Gnocchi, Tobias Stosiek, Matthias Bartolomey, Susanne Paul, Peter Herbert, and Angela Paynter.
