Sandie Wollasch
At the age of 3, Sandie Wollasch was already singing English pop songs. Her first stage appearance followed at 13 in her father’s band, soon accompanied by early studio experiences and additional live performances. After completing her Abitur in 1991, she became continuously active in the music industry.
With the soul formation Six Was Nine, she completed two major tours in 1995 and 1996, including performances as support act for Tina Turner’s European tour. She then collaborated for two years with the Ulm hip jazz duo Tab Two (bass legend Hellmut Hattler and trumpeter Joo Kraus). This was followed by Hattler’s solo project Hattler, in which Sandie played a significant artistic role. Her work contributed notably to the success of the album No Eats Yes, which received the Echo 2011 in the category Jazz. For six years she appeared with Hattler on stage and on various recordings.
Since 1997, Sandie has been performing with Groove Incorporation, celebrating strong success in local music clubs and at numerous events. Alongside her live career, she became known as a sought-after studio vocalist. Together with guitarist Joerg Dudys, she wrote and produced all songs for her CD No Mystery, released in 2002.
In 2003, Swiss jazz musician George Gruntz invited her to perform in his jazz opera Magic of a Flute. The world premiere took place at the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad with the NDR Bigband, Lauren Newton, Marc Murphy, Danny Gottlieb and others.
In 2004 and 2005 she toured Austria, Switzerland and Germany with George Gruntz and the Concert Jazz Band from New York, joined by special guest Nils Landgren. Since 2004, Sandie has also been a member of the vocal formation 4yourSoul around singer and producer Edo Zanki.
In 2005, she founded the ensemble Studnitzky TRIBAND together with drummer Tommy Baldu and trumpeter and keyboarder Sebastian “Stud” Studnitzky. Their first CD No Sleep appeared in September 2005.
Between 2006 and 2009, TRIBAND performed at festivals and in renowned jazz clubs across Germany, Russia, Latvia, the UAE and Portugal, including the Jazzopen Stuttgart. The CD Trip was released in 2007, and that same year the group received the prestigious music prize of the Verband der Deutschen Konzertdirektionen (VDKD). Their third album So Together followed in January 2009. In the same year, the ensemble toured successfully with Grammy-winning jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding as part of the series Jazztoday. The live album Where Did All the Love Go, recorded at Schloss Elmau in 2011, is their final TRIBAND release.
In 2010, Sandie produced the album Quicksand together with Pit Baumgartner (De-Phazz), featuring the title Economic Poetry. She also contributed vocals to the De-Phazz albums la.la and audio elastique.
On the 2012 CD produced with the SWR Bigband and various artists on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Baden-Württemberg, Sandie was featured as one of the “best from the southwest”. She subsequently toured as a soloist with the SWR Bigband alongside Paul Carrack and Götz Alsmann. In 2013, she released her second solo album Believer. She continues to appear live with artists such as Matthias Hautsch, Tommy Baldu, Edo Zanki, Kosho and Joo Kraus.
