Stephanie Jones grew up surrounded by music from a very young age.
She played several instruments, beginning with the piano and later studying violin, viola, saxophone and flute. It was the guitar, with its expressive sound palette and remarkable versatility, that captivated her and soon became her primary instrument.
Stephanie has completed a Master’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance with Thomas Müller-Pering at the University of Music Franz Liszt.
In 2014, she graduated from the Australian National University with First Class Honours after four years of study with Timothy Kain and Minh Le Hoang. She then received a Friends of the School of Music Transition Scholarship, which supported several artistic projects following her graduation. She completed a successful tour across Australia, which launched her CD “Colours of Spain.” She was also awarded the Clifford Hocking Scholarship at the Mount Beauty Music Festival and was nominated for the Freedman Fellowship through The Music Trust. In 2015, she received an Australian Music Foundation Scholarship that included a performance at Wigmore Hall in London.
Stephanie has performed internationally, including two Australian tours, a New Zealand tour and, with the Weimar Guitar Quartet, a tour of Germany.
In 2014, she won the Young Virtuoso of the Year through the Fine Music Network National Competition. In 2012, she earned second prize at the Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition.
She has completed her Diploma exam for the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music, the AMEB AMusA exam and the LMusA exam, and was awarded the JB Vincent Memorial Award for Best Eligible LMusA Candidate in 2012.
Her earlier awards include the Royal Schools Anniversary Scholarship and the Harmony Endowment Undergraduate Scholarship in 2010, a John Wallis Scholarship in 2013 and the Friends of the School of Music Travel Grant, which enabled study and performance opportunities in Spain and France.
Stephanie has released two albums: “Colours of Spain” (2015) and “Bach, the Fly, and the Microphone” (2009).
