Early Life and Family Heritage

Paco Santiago Marín was born in 1946 in Granada. He comes from a family of guitar makers and has been building guitars since 1965. His father, Francisco Santiago Oliva, was a carpenter who trained him in woodworking. In 1963, Paco joined his uncle Antonio Marín Montero’s workshop to learn the craft of guitar making.

Establishing His Own Workshop

In 1972, Paco founded his own workshop in Granada. For the past 20 years, he has been working alongside his son, Luis Santiago, continuing the family tradition.

International Teaching and Influence

He has taught courses at many international festivals, including:

  • 6th Guitar Competition and Festival of Havana, Cuba (1992)
  • Cordoba Guitar Festival (2000–2003)
  • American Institute of Guitar in New York (1993)

Instrument Characteristics and Legacy

Paco's guitars are known for their projection, balance, and rich tone. Many professional musicians prefer his instruments. He has also built replicas of historic guitars, including an 1864 Antonio de Torres model once owned by Francisco Tárrega, requested by guitarist Adrián Rius.
