Overview

About the luthier

Javier Mengual is one of the most experienced and respected master luthiers at Alhambra Guitars, known for his role in creating high-end, handcrafted concert instruments within the company’s workshop in Muro d'Alcoy, Spain. Over the course of his career, he has refined his methods through collaboration with distinguished musicians and fellow guitar makers, maintaining a strong commitment to both Spanish guitar tradition and technical excellence. His work is characterized by deep tonal sensibility, meticulous craftsmanship, and a keen understanding of the needs of concert players.

The “Deseada” model holds a special place in Mengual’s career. Developed through years of feedback from professional guitarists and enriched by a close collaboration with Joaquín Clerch, it embodies his vision of a modern concert instrument that retains the essential warmth and identity of the Spanish classical guitar. The model is also a personal tribute to his wife, with whom he shares a lifelong connection to the art of guitar making. Artists such as Julia Trintschuck and Ali Arango have chosen the Deseada as their main concert instrument, underlining its musical depth and expressive capability.

About the guitar

This 2025 Deseada, numbered 240-22, is a special edition built exclusively for Siccas Guitars. It is distinguished by a custom rosette designed specifically for this series, adding a unique visual identity to an already celebrated model. Crafted using traditional Spanish construction techniques, it features a cedar top paired with Indian rosewood back and sides, offering a warm, rich tonal character with clear projection and excellent balance across the registers.

The guitar delivers a full, melodic voice with strong overtones and a resonant core, ideal for both intimate settings and large concert venues. The instrument’s lightweight design and precise neck profile contribute to exceptional playing comfort, allowing extended performance sessions without fatigue. Its powerful sound and refined aesthetic make it equally suited for recording and live performance.

Equipped with Alessi tuners, a 650 mm scale length, and a 51 mm nut, the guitar offers a smooth and responsive playing experience. The nitrocellulose finish on the body enhances durability while the schellac polished soundboard insures maximum freedom of the top. With thoughtful features and a strong artistic identity, this special edition of the Deseada represents the pinnacle of Javier Mengual’s craftsmanship and a great opportunity for enthusiasts and performers alike.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
