Antonio Marin Montero - 2021 "Premium"

Overview

The Premium models are unique instruments that are developed in cooperation with a selection of exceptional luthiers. These models are exclusively available at Siccas Guitars and are built with the finest Cites-certified Brazilian rosewood of premium quality. Due to its outstanding physical and tonal characteristics, this wood has been used in guitar building since the 19th century and is regarded as the most valuable and aesthetically appealing tonewood in guitar building.

Antonio Marín Montero was born in Granada in 1933. In 1957, he joined master Pérez’s workshop and two years later, in 1959, his father advised him to visit Eduardo Ferrer for whom he worked until opening his own workshop. A milestone in Antonio Marin Montero’s career was his meeting with the French luthier Robert Bouchet in the 1970s. The two artists became friends and built several guitars together. The confrontation between Marin Montero’s Spanish building system and Robert Bouchet’s very particular bracing construction was a great source of inspiration for Antonio Marin Montero, and he continued to build a model with the” Robert Bouchet” bracing throughout his career. Today Antonio Marin Montero is one of the most sought-after Spanish guitar makers.

From the exclusive "Premium" series, this instrument numbered 911 is only the fifth that we have received. This very limited production built by Antonio Marin Montero with mind-blowing Cites certified Brazilian rosewood is in a way the holy grail of the contemporary Spanish guitar. Today, this guitar is amongst the most sought-after instruments built by an active luthier; in a few decades, it will undoubtedly be the central piece of a world-class guitar collection.

This Marin Montero features many unique details, which make it a true work of art. The exclusivity of the woods used is obvious, and one can only admire the quality of these timbers. Built in 2021 and coming directly from Montero's workshop, this traditional guitar was made with a very responsive "bear claw" spruce soundboard. The set of Cites certified Brazilian rosewood shows mesmerizing orange reflections and displays a spectacular grain. It is worth mentioning that this guitar is one of the few whose number can be found on the label.

This guitar has a typical and easily recognizable "Antonio Marin Montero" sound, with a wonderfully rich timbre and a very Spanish character deriving from the famous Granada guitar making tradition. This premium model features exceptionally dense trebles with a versatile palette of timbres and exceedingly long sustain. Both visually and sonically, this is a very well-balanced instrument that also has the amazing ability to respond to any type of playing style. Whether played hard or soft, with nails or without, digging deep into the strings or just gently stroking them, this guitar can produce a sound that is appropriately powerful, mellow, charming and also poetic.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
