Overview

Carsten Kobs is a well-established German luthier based in Hamburg, Germany. He is one of the pioneers of double-top construction and thus one of the first generations of German luthiers to adopt this innovative building technique. His double-top guitars are known for their distinct lightness, responsiveness, and volume. The list of guitarists playing his instruments is impressive, including Manuel Barrueco, David Russel, and Aniello Desiderio. With a long and ever-growing waiting list, Kobs guitars are rarely available, which is why we are especially pleased to present his latest guitar.

Built in 2021, this instrument weighs only an impressive 1240 grams and has a remarkable sound volume. With its spruce/Nomex/spruce fan bracing, this guitar develops an elegant and rich tone while offering unexpected possibilities of dynamic phrasing. Particularly noteworthy is the excellent balance in polyphony. In addition, especially the first string is characterized by an amazing consistency and long sustain up to the high registers. This guitar clearly belongs to the top category of modern guitars and is an ideal concert instrument, also due to its excellent playability.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
