Daniel Friederich - 1978

Daniel Friederich - 1978

Overview

Daniel Friederich was born on January 16, 1932. Although having a strong wish to play guitar, he had to face the shortage of money. However, at the age of 23, Friederich solved this dilemma by building his first guitar himself with the result of a copy of a Simplicio guitar. In the beginning, Friederich was helped by his guitar teacher Christian Aubin. After having built tools and gathered some guitar making experiences, Daniel Friederich showed his fifteenth guitar to Robert Bouchet. Ever since R. Bouchet inspired his work. He personally developed some ideas of R. Bouchet during his career. For decades, Daniel Friederich has been one of the most important active luthiers in the world. In 2015, he stopped building guitars and sold all his tools. He is now definitely one of the most respected and admired luthiers of guitar history.

At the beginning of his career as a guitar maker, Daniel Friederich built a few guitars with spruce tops, which changed in the 1970s when he started to devote himself mainly to the construction of guitars with cedar tops, which are still today among the most sought-after guitars worldwide due to their outstanding tonal qualities.

This breath-taking top concert model from 1978 was built with a beautiful dark cedar top. It is very responsive and easy to play and offers a range of charming timbres. The trebles sound crystal clear and impressively rich in overtones, almost bell-like with a beautiful long sustain. The basses are pleasantly warm and powerful; not dominating the sound and allowing the trebles a lot of freedom to unfold, resulting in a more than well-balanced sound. When playing the open strings one has the impression of being in a cathedral. This guitar by Daniel Friedrich was played a lot and therefore shows traces of playing on the whole body, but is completely free of cracks or repairs. This is a world-class guitar, which convinces with a wonderful sound and gives every player and enthusiast a lot of emotions and possibilities to express themselves.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
