Dario Garcia - 2023 "1924 Santos Hernandez"

Dario Garcia - 2023 "1924 Santos Hernandez"

Overview

Dario García is the son of Antonio J. García, who learned the craft of guitar making from two of Granada’s most noted and influential luthiers, Paco Santiago Marín and Rolf Eichinger. The influence of the Granada school is noticeable in his work, but of course he also adds his personal touch to each and every instrument he builds. Dario creates guitars of various designs for both classical and flamenco guitars and is always keen to combine the best possible materials with detailed workmanship.

Darío García, with his deep reverence for the classical Spanish guitar-making tradition of the 20th century, crafts instruments that are both a nod to history and a step towards modernity. His workshop, known for producing guitars that embody classical aesthetics, also embraces innovative techniques, such as the integration of double sides, enhancing both projection and the tonal richness of the instrument.

This particular guitar, a masterpiece by García, is a testament to his dedication to replicating historical instruments with precision and care. It's a faithful recreation of the iconic 1924 Santos Hernández guitar, an instrument that once resonated under the fingers of the legendary Andrés Segovia and now resides in the Victor Espinós Music Library in Madrid.

The instrument's sound is characterized by its present harmonic content, offering a full-bodied, resonant tone that guitarists seek. This, combined with its charming vintage timbre – a quality rarely found in new instruments – makes it a truly inspiring guitar to play. The sound harkens back to the golden age of classical guitar, offering a warm, nostalgic tone that is both evocative and deeply satisfying.

  • Classical guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
