Dennis Tolz - 2023 Doubletop

Overview

Dennis Tolz is one of the most interesting German luthiers of his generation. His guitars are built in an exciting way, combining a modern volume and playability with a rich traditional sound. To achieve this, Dennis Tolz uses the technique he inherited from Gernot Wagner: the Nomex double top, paired with a rather conventional fan-bracing pattern. His guitars are therefore responsive, easy to play, colourful, articulated, and powerful. Dennis Tolz is internationally recognized for his exceptional guitars and fantastic artists such as David Russell, Rene Izquierdo, and Giampaolo Bandini play his instruments in concert regularly. The waiting time for a new Dennis Tolz guitar is now ten years and keep on extending.

This exquisite guitar crafted by Dennis Tolz is a prime example of contemporary luthiery at its finest, showcasing a perfect blend of balance and elegance. The instrument’s design reflects Tolz’s dedication to intelligent and refined guitar making, with every detail meticulously thought out to create a harmonious blend of form and function. The double-top soundboard, featuring an external layer of spruce and an internal layer of cedar, is a testament to this commitment. This combination, along with the traditional lightweight fan bracing, endows the guitar with fantastic projection while maintaining a warm, precise, and charming tone. The sides of the guitar are doubled with cypress, not only enhancing the structural integrity of the instrument but also contributing to its remarkable sound projection. This thoughtful construction ensures that the guitar not only plays beautifully but also stands out in terms of durability and sound quality.

The playing experience on this Dennis Tolz guitar is nothing short of exceptional. The neck has been crafted with an ergonomic design, making it effortless to play, which is a significant advantage during long practice sessions or performances. The setup of the guitar offers extreme comfort, allowing the guitarist to focus solely on their music. Adding to its innovative features is the WaveGuide, a small carbon fibre tornavoz ingeniously incorporated into the design. This feature aims to achieve a main air resonance below E (82Hz), thereby enriching the guitar’s tone with a higher fundamental tonal content.

Dennis Tolz 2023 Doubletop Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
