Born and raised in a small town near Munich, Edmund Blöchinger's early fascination with the visual and auditory elements of music led him down a path of unique craftsmanship. His passion for guitar making was influenced by childhood experiences, such as admiring the shapes of classical guitars in store windows and learning to appreciate the natural beauty of wood through his grandfather, a retired forest master. This deep connection to nature became foundational in his work, as he continues to personally select and cut the wood for his guitars. After initially training as a cabinetmaker, Blöchinger's ambition to become a luthier was realized in 1982 through an apprenticeship in a nearby guitar workshop. A pivotal moment in his career occurred in 1987, with the discovery of José Luis Romanillos' book on Antonio de Torres, and was further cemented by attending Romanillos' master class in Cordoba in 1989. Blöchinger's craftsmanship has been profoundly shaped by the traditional methods and aesthetic principles of legendary masters. His guitars, known for their warmth, clarity, and balance, achieving a distinctive concert sound through meticulous attention to design and construction details.
