Ennio Giovanetti - 2025 - Friederich - 64 cm

Overview

About the luthier

Ennio Giovanetti has been building classical guitars since 1998 in his workshop in Sariano di Gropparello near Piacenza, Italy. He studied guitar making in Milan with Enrico Bottelli, where he had the opportunity to examine and study instruments by legendary luthiers such as Antonio de Torres, Francisco Simplicio, and Enrique Garcia. Giovanetti’s guitars follow traditional construction principles but are marked by distinctive stylistic and structural elements that make his instruments easily recognizable. His commitment to craftsmanship and material excellence has earned his instruments wide appreciation among performers and collectors alike.

About the guitar

This guitar is a remarkable homage to Daniel Friederich’s iconic aesthetic and tonal ideals. One of its most extraordinary features is the spruce soundboard, which originates from Friederich’s personal stock and is dated to 1962. The label inside the instrument bears the notation “extra woods,” indicating the significance of the materials used. The back and sides, made from Indian rosewood, have been naturally aged for more than twenty years, contributing further to the guitar’s mature acoustic qualities.

Tonally, the instrument offers a rich and balanced character: velvety basses, sustained resonance, and warm, rounded trebles. The response is moderate, favoring controlled projection and dynamic nuance, while the tonal consistency across the registers gives the instrument a highly cohesive voice. The build reflects Giovanetti’s deep admiration for Friederich’s craftsmanship, evident not only in the woods selected but also in the guitar’s structural clarity and elegant simplicity. With its 640 mm scale length and lightweight build, this guitar delivers refined playability and tonal maturity in equal measure.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
