Francisco Simplicio - 1929

Francisco Simplicio - 1929

Overview

Francisco Simplicio (1874-1932) apprenticed in 1919 at the workshop of the famous Enrique Garcia in Barcelona. At that time Simplicio was already a highly skilled woodworker who had worked for over 19 years as cabinet maker. When Garcia died in 1922 Simplicio took over his workshop and produced guitars under the name of the Garcia workshop for over three years after Garcia’s death. Simplicio was an extraordinary luthier and the carved headstock of his guitars and the elaborated purfling is a testimonial of his gift as a woodworker. Simplicio made 336 guitars under his name between 1922 and 1932. The top of this guitar is made of spruce, back and sides are made of rosewood. It has no cracks on the top. Only on the back there are two repaired cracks. The machine heads are original and work well. The sound of this guitar is typical for a Simplicio – warm and lyrical.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
