Overview
Horst Fietz was a German luthier that built a variety of different types of instruments ranging from guitars to violins. He was located in Markneukirchen Germany which has a long-rooted tradition of lutherie going back as far as the 17th century. When looking at Fietz guitars one can spot many similarities with Richard Jacob Weissgerber’s instruments. For instance, Horst Fietz’ name is stamped vertically on the reinforcement of the back, just at the height of the soundhole. The waxed head-plate is also very evocative of the later Weissgerber Spanish models.
This particular guitar from 1967 is very charming indeed. As a full-size Spanish model, it has a lovely and sweet voice. A remarkable attribute for such a 50-year-old instrument is its very good condition. Only a few dings on the top and some moderate playwear are to be noticed. When playing on the guitar one can feel how light and comfortable it is. The zero fret also makes it easy to play close to the nut because of the lower action enabled by this building technique. If you are looking for a delicate guitar with an alluring appeal this one is for you.
