About the luthier
At the age of 16, this talented luthier began his training at the International School of Lutherie in Antwerp (ILSA). After graduating three years later, he pursued further studies in the restoration of musical instruments. During this period, he started working independently, experimenting with various techniques and crafts in his student apartment in Belgium.
In 2016, he apprenticed under Master Luthier Stephen Hill in La Herradura, Granada. A year later, following this inspiring experience, he returned to La Herradura to continue refining his skills under Hill’s guidance. It was during this time that the idea of establishing his own workshop in Spain took shape.
In October 2017, shortly after obtaining his diploma in instrument, he relocated to Andalucía, bringing all his equipment to finally settle in Nigüelas. By June 2019, his workshop in Nigüelas officially opened its doors.
Like many esteemed guitar makers, his construction method is deeply rooted in the traditions of Antonio de Torres. With great respect for Spanish lutherie, he builds handcrafted guitars that embrace both tradition and modern refinements. Each instrument is unique in sound and aesthetics.
About the guitar
This classical guitar is based on Antonio de Torres' second-period plantilla. It features a traditional bracing pattern with seven fan struts, two closing bars, and a very light bridge bar, ensuring a well-balanced structure that enhances tonal richness. The top is made of Alpine spruce, while the back and sides are crafted from Indian rosewood, offering warmth, depth, and remarkable resonance. The neck is made of cedar, and the fingerboard of ebony, ensuring stability and comfort. The guitar is fitted with high-quality Barnett tuning machines, known for their precision and durability.
One of the most distinctive aspects of this guitar is its purfling and rosette, which feature a "random sequence" herringbone pattern. Unlike traditional herringbone designs that rely on a repetitive sequence of thin veneer layers, this technique uses solid wood pieces in an extended, non-repeating pattern. This design emerged from an early experiment where different wood pieces were assembled spontaneously, resulting in a visually striking aesthetic that was later refined into a more controlled and deliberate process. This instrument is a perfect blend of tradition and individuality, offering an expressive, refined sound with remarkable playability.
