John Price - 2014 - Lattice

John Price - 2014 - Lattice

Overview

Utilising both musicianship and cabinet making skills, John Price takes an intuitive approach when designing and building instruments. His unique approach to the construction of the soundboard and the lattice-bracing greatly enhance the volume, tonal range and flexibility of nuance required in the modern style of guitar. Price says that by coupling this type of soundboard with an arched, braceless back, sustain and projection are also greatly enhanced. All of these features are complemented by a consistency in the set up of the guitar resulting in an appreciable ease of playing offering the performer a greater scope of musical expression and interpretation.

This lattice guitar built by the Australian luthier John Price is an impressive instrument. It has a wonderful spruce top, very thinly worked, and supported by a carbon-reinforced lattice bracing. The arched back made of cocobolo and without bracing is also a very interesting feature and typical of John Price’s concept. The guitar is in good condition with only one well-repaired crack at the middle joint and without playwear. This powerful instrument displays a particularly projecting and colorful tone. Also, the quick responsiveness and smooth playability are much-appreciated qualities. All these characteristics support the guitarist and make this a 100% reliable instrument in terms of sound, volume, and playing comfort.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
