Julían Gómez Ramírez – 1934

Overview

Julián Gómez Ramírez was born in Madrid in 1879. At the early age of 13, he started working in Augustín Andrés' workshop. In 1910, Julián entered the workshop of José Ramirez I where he worked for four years. He finally moved to Paris in 1914, where he became the first representative of the Spanish guitar-making in France. This new way of building guitars was particularly appreciated as the Spanish fan-braced guitars were richer and more powerful than the small-bodied romantic guitars, whose popularity has decreased a lot with the immense success of the piano in the Parisian salons. In 1938, Robert Bouchet visited Julián Gómez Ramírez’ workshop as a customer. Quickly, the two men became friends and J. G. Ramirez taught R. Bouchet the art of the lutherie, founding the pillars of the French twentieth century school of guitar making.
This guitar has a wonderful spruce top and fine Cites pre-convention Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It was built in 1934 in Paris, and is in great condition with only four fully repaired cracks on the top. It is soft and sweet with an old pure tone. The basses are ample and generous, supporting the trebles with balanced sympathetic resonances. It is not only a rare collectible instrument, but also a guitar that will please the ears of its lucky player and audience. The original case is included.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
