Karl Hermann Schaefer - 2024

Karl Hermann Schaefer - 2024

Overview

Karl-Hermann Schäfer started making guitars in 1966. He did his apprenticeship under the guidance of master guitar maker Ernest Köröskeny and later studied under master guitar maker Dieter Hopf. After having worked in Hopf’s workshop from 1971 to 1994, he opened his own in Oberneisen and moved to Niederbrechen, Germany, five years later. Karl-Hermann Schäfer has specialized in making the most wonderful replicas one could wish for. These instruments are not only well built, but they also offer the very authentic sound of master instruments of the past.

The 2024 Karl-Hermann Schäfer guitar pays homage to the rich traditions of German guitar craftsmanship, inspired by the legendary 1937 German guitars. While the original featured Brazilian rosewood, this modern interpretation brings together a spruce soundboard with the refined elegance of Maple for its back and sides, showcasing a thoughtful difference in material choice.

Sonically, the Schäfer guitar stands as a benchmark of acoustic brilliance. It creates a soundscape that immerses the listener in a blend of complexity, depth, and finesse—qualities that define top-tier musical instruments. The bass notes are full-bodied and resonate deeply, while the trebles soar with pristine clarity, offering a sound experience that is both intricate and expansive.

Every aspect of the guitar's construction is meticulously crafted, exuding an allure that captivates and resonates. This, combined with its exceptional sustain, elevates it above its contemporaries, distinguishing it in a competitive field. The bass tones evoke a sense depth and definition, appealing to connoisseurs who appreciate the vintage essence of German guitars.

Overall, the tonal character of the 2024 Karl-Hermann Schäfer is nothing short of dramatic. It doesn’t just produce sound; it tells a melodious story, with each note contributing to a narrative that is as timeless as it is modern.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
