Marco Lijoi - 2022 No. 012

Overview

Marco Lijoi is an Italian luthier based in Savigliano in the province of Cuneo. He started playing the guitar at the early age of four. Since his passion for woodworking overtook his interest in physics, becoming a luthier became evident after his high school graduation. Therefore, Marco entered the prestigious guitar-making school “Civica Scuola di Liuteria” in Milan, receiving a Master Luthier title after four years of intense studies. Marco Lijoi now opened his workshop in Savigliano (CN), where he builds first-quality instruments inspired by nature, particularly the mountains and the sky.

The rosette of this guitar is an open window on the night sky, with its colors and mysteries, and this modern yet timeless design is an actual work of art. Made of metal powders, natural pigments, and acrylic, one can look at it daily and yet perpetually rediscover it. Of course, the sound of this instrument is just as pleasing, and this traditionally built guitar has a soft, inspiring tone, offering plenty of colors and getting on a very emotional level.

Here are a few words of Marco Lijoi about this guitar:

“This guitar represents all my thought of construction and life, all my passions and aesthetic taste. It is the guitar that I have always wanted to play as a guitarist: I have always given great importance to the volume and projection of the instrument but also combined much time in searching for a timbre that would allow each guitarist to express himself as much as possible, freely and with “cantability.” Another aspect that is fundamental for me is comfort: an impeccable set-up and a neck shape that allows the guitarist to play for hours.
In the rosette, I wanted to represent the Milky Way, the sky, and the stars, another great passion of mine. On the right side is the summer sky, the center of our galaxy, rich in nebulae and hydrogen (magenta color). The left side represents the winter sky, a look towards the deep sky. Simple, modern, but above all beautiful and functional.”

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
