Overview

Prof. Dr. Mario Sicca, born on 12th September 1930, began his career as an internationally renowned guitarist in 1962 by studying at the “Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien” in the class of Karl Scheit. In 1964 he had his first encounter with Robert Bouchet and in 1966 with Daniel Friederich. Since these times he has played almost exclusively on the guitars of the two most famous guitar makers in the world. Mario Sicca gave concerts with his “Duo Italiano Sicca – Fleres” in 21 countries and eventually became a professor of classical guitar at the Staatliche Hochschule in Karlsruhe and the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart.

His encounters with Robert Bouchet and Daniel Friederich left a lasting impression on Mario Sicca, so that he began to devote himself with full passion to guitar making. Under the artist name ‘Eriberto Ajevoli’ – inspired by Bouchet and Friederich – he began to develop his own guitar models. Now 90 years old, Mario Sicca builds about two guitars a year. They are 100% traditionally handmade without the aid of modern machines.

This stunning guitar with the number 131 was made with fine spruce top and with a remarkable set of cocobolo. This rare and noble wood is particularly dense and part of the rosewood family, making it a perfect choice for back and sides. It efficiently reflects vibrations and forms a stiff resonance frame, so the energy mainly affects the soundboard. In addition, it is a splendid timber, and the highly figured back selected for this guitar ranges from intense red to bright honey tones in a mesmerizing wavy pattern. This guitar is not only aesthetically noteworthy, but also sonically remarkable. The beautifully singing trebles provide an even and polished tone of distinctive elegance that is supported by intense, rich basses, all of which adds up to a great classical guitar.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
