Overview

Martin Bretscher first completed an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker before starting his secondary education as a plucked instrument maker with Armin Hanika in 2003 and gaining the master's certificate in 2007. In addition, he was awarded the Master Craftsman Prize of the Bavarian State Government in the same year.

Soul Guitars was founded by Martin in 2020 in Bavaria to create and maintain unique, sustainable, and fair guitars, which are the main philosophies of Soul Guitars in the first place.

The flow cut model is a cutaway classical guitar developed for easy fingering and improved playability in the high registers. This guitar’s volume and tonal qualities are ideal for demanding improvisations and jazz pieces. This beautiful instrument features a unique selection of woods: a beautiful thermos spruce soundboard combined with a walnut back and sides. Furthermore, the fingerboard has a 12″ radius, which makes this instrument exceptionally comfortable to play with the left hand.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
