Overview

Martin Bretscher is a guitar maker known for his exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to sustainable, fair, and unique guitars. His journey into the world of luthiery began with an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker. In 2003, Martin pursued his guitar-making passion and started his secondary education as a plucked instrument maker with Armin Hanika. He quickly distinguished himself as a talented and dedicated student, earning his master's certificate in 2007. Martin was awarded the Master Craftsman Prize of the Bavarian State Government in the same year, an honor recognizing his exceptional talent and commitment to his work. In 2020, Martin founded Soul Guitars in Bavaria, which reflects his passion for creating sustainable, fair, and unique instruments. With a deep commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility, Martin's guitars are built with the finest materials and designed to stand the test of time.

The brand-new Martin Bretscher guitar is a stunningly beautiful and expertly crafted instrument designed for advanced musicians seeking superior sound and playability. The flow cut model is a cutaway classical guitar, specially developed to allow for easy fingering and improved playability in the high registers, making it an ideal choice for demanding improvisations and jazz pieces. Crafted from a unique selection of woods, this guitar boasts a lattice-braced spruce soundboard that produces a rich, warm, and resonant tone. The back and sides are made from beautiful yew, which not only adds to the aesthetic appeal of the guitar but also contributes to its tonal qualities. One of the standout features of this guitar is its fingerboard, which has a 12″ radius. This unique design provides exceptional comfort when playing with the left hand, making it easier to reach high notes and play complex chord progressions. In addition to its superior sound and playability, this beautiful instrument also comes equipped with a Fishman AG094 passive piezo pickup system. This system captures and amplifies the guitar's natural acoustic sound, making it perfect for live performances or recording sessions. The Martin Bretscher guitar is versatile for various musical genres and performance settings with this advanced pickup system.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
