Masaki Sakurai, a renowned Japanese guitar maker, is known for his exceptional craftsmanship and his contribution to the field of guitar making. He inherited his passion for guitar making from his uncle Masaru Kohno, who was one of the most respected guitar makers in Japan.
Sakurai started his career in the field of electrical engineering, but after graduating from Sophia University in 1967, he joined the family business “Kohno Guitar Manufacturing” to continue the legacy of his uncle. Over the years, he honed his skills and became a master of the craft.
In 1988, he won the prestigious first prize at the fourth international Paris Guitar Making Competition, which cemented his reputation as a world-class guitar maker. His guitars are highly sought after by musicians and collectors alike due to their impeccable craftsmanship and exceptional sound quality.
