Nils Schebesta – 2022 Cedar No. 28

Overview

Nils Schebesta is a talented young guitar maker who started his apprenticeship as a luthier ten years ago. After finishing his apprenticeship, he studied guitar making in Markneukirchen and refined his skills during various internships and workshops. Before he moved into his workshop in Leipzig at the beginning of 2019, he worked for a violin maker for several years. From his workshop, he builds instruments inspired by German and French traditions.

The Nils Schebesta guitar, No. 28, embodies an avant-garde approach to concert instrument design, constructed for the contemporary performer desiring a unique and unforgettable musical journey. The manifestation of innovation and uncompromising quality, this guitar presents a marriage of traditional materials and inventive construction. Composed of a cedar top and Honduras rosewood back and sides, the No. 28 combines these tonewoods to great effect. The cedar top provides a mellow, sweet tone, while the Honduras rosewood enhances the sound with rich, full-bodied resonance. This tonewood pairing enables a harmoniously balanced and deeply expressive sound profile. Each aspect of this instrument, from its intricately crafted purfling and rosette to its carefully formed neck, is a testament to Schebesta's masterful craftsmanship. Every design feature has been meticulously realized, adding layers of visual sophistication that complement the guitar's tonal brilliance. The sonic output of No. 28 is nothing short of exceptional. It produces resonant, crisp bass notes, which provide a striking counterpoint to the sweet, ethereal treble frequencies. Each note rings out with clarity and warmth, contributing to an auditory experience that is both delightful and inspiring. Playability is enhanced by the thoughtful shaping of the neck, designed for comfort and ease of movement. This feature enables smoother transitions and precision in articulation, meeting the exacting demands of discerning performers. The guitar's soundboard is supported by five precisely tuned fan braces, controlling the vibration of the soundboard and influencing the instrument's tone and response. This structural element contributes to the instrument's balance and playability, harmonizing structural stability with sound production. In conclusion, Nils Schebesta's guitar No. 28 is more than a musical instrument; it is a testament to Schebesta's innovative vision and craftsmanship, marrying tradition with innovation excitingly and uniquely. With its superior playability, beautifully balanced tone, and unparalleled craftsmanship, the No. 28 offers an unrivaled musical experience, rightfully earning its place as a modern masterpiece in luthiery.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
