Overview
Richard Jacob “Weissgerber” was one of the most creative, innovative, and certainly the most versatile guitar makers of the 20th century. Neither in Germany nor in the world has there been or is there any other master whose work, in its multiplicity, would be comparable to that of Richard Jacob. The variety of his models, shapes, and designs are unique.
This very interesting model is a 9-string Torres model from 1932 with five fan struts. It is a very rare and well preserved instrument, built with a magnificent set of Rio rosewood (Pre Cites) for back and sides and with a well aged spruce top. Its condition is excellent with only two thin, well repaired cracks on the top. The original Rubner machine heads have been replaced by newer Rubner tuners, and the bridge has been slightly modified to get an optimal string angle. The nut has been modified to a wider one, so that the free-swinging strings can also be played half a tone higher. This extends the bass range by another 8 tones compared to a 6-string guitar. In addition, the overtones of the free-swinging strings considerably enrich the overall sound character of the guitar.
