Overview

About the luthier

Robert Ruck (1945-2018) was a prolific and respected American luthier. His guitars were particularly known thanks to Manuel Barrueco and Shin-ichi Fukuda, who both recorded on Ruck’s guitars. Moreover, Robert Ruck had a strong personality as well as an immense love for musical instruments, and he deeply marked the history of guitar making in the United States.

About the guitar

This stunning 1982 Robert Ruck is a prime example of his exceptional craftsmanship and a testament to why he holds a legendary status in classical guitar making. It is a top-tier concert instrument, offering remarkable volume, clarity, and balance—essential qualities for a world-class guitar.

From a construction perspective, the guitar features double sides with Cypress on the inside, which significantly enhances its projection and tonal focus due to the increased rigidity of the structure. It also includes seven simple fan bracings, a bridge plate, and two V-shaped diagonal braces at the lower end of the soundboard, reinforcing both stability and tonal projection. The spruce soundboard remains structurally flawless, while the rare Brazilian rosewood back and sides have a professionally repaired crack, a common occurrence with this precious tonewood.

Despite its longer scale and wider nut, the guitar maintains outstanding playability, thanks to its ergonomically designed neck, making it comfortable for players of all levels. This exceptional concert instrument embodies the pinnacle of Ruck’s artistry, standing as a historic and rare masterpiece.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
