Rolf Eichinger - 1985

Rolf Eichinger - 1985

Overview

Rolf Eichinger was born on 10 September 1944 in Stuttgart. As a young man he studied industrial design. As he became more and more interested in guitar playing, he turned out to be an excellent guitarist and worked as a guitar teacher at Stuttgart’s music school for several years. On extensive journeys and stays in Spain, especially Andalusia, he learned the language and made friends with some of Granada’s best guitar builders, e.g. Antonio Marin Montero or Jose Lopez Bellido. Rolf always brought guitars back to Germany from his travels for his students. The demand increased so much that he decided to open a guitar shop. In 1997 Rolf decided to move to Granada, where in his opinion the most outstanding contemporary masters of guitar making lived, and from where he had gained the great inspiration for his own work in order to establish himself as a luthier there. In 2007 he fell seriously ill with cancer and moved to Salobrena on the south coast of Andalusia. There he died on 18 September 2009. During his time as a guitar builder Rolf Eichinger built about 300 instruments.

This remarkable instrument bridges the rich heritage of Spanish tradition with the precision of German engineering, reflecting Rolf's status as one of the most prominent German builders. It showcases his deep acoustic expertise, delivering impressive power, playability, and a refined tonal palette. The trebles are smooth and highly responsive, while the Brazilian rosewood back and sides are crafted from a rare and exceptional quality that is difficult to find today. In good condition, the guitar exhibits signs of regular playing, enhancing its character and charm. The headplate of the headstock has two non-through cracks, purely cosmetic and not affecting its structural integrity or performance.

Erez Perelman 2024 Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
