Stephen Eden - 2025 - "Friederich" No. 216

Overview

About the luthier

Stephen got his first acoustic guitar at 18, after having been passionately into music for many years. In 2004, he attended evening classes taught by Master Luthier Stephen Hill, which inspired his journey into guitar making. Shortly thereafter, Stephen apprenticed for two years in the workshop of Pablo Requena, where he acquired a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that he continues to apply in his craft today. In 2008, Stephen established his first workshop. Since then, he has built guitars for many professional guitarists, including Paul Gregory, Juan Martin, Peter Stuart, Sean Shibe, Ian Watt, Andrew Gough, Allan Neave, Gaëlle Solall, Pavel Ralev, Bridget Mermikides, and Mark Eden.

About the guitar

This 2025 guitar is a meticulously crafted replica of the revered 1980 Daniel Friederich model, mirroring every detail of its visual and structural design. It features a cedar soundboard paired with breathtaking Indian rosewood for the back and sides, showcasing the aesthetic elegance and acoustic richness of the original. Unique to this model is Friederich’s distinctive 7-fan bracing system, crafted from cedar rather than the traditionally used spruce. This thoughtful choice enhances the structural integrity of the guitar without adding unnecessary weight, contributing to its remarkable tonal resonance and volume capabilities.

The trebles of this guitar are complex and lyrical, harmoniously blending with the deep, velvety basses to create a sound that is both rich and nuanced. With its broad dynamic range and expressive tonal fidelity, this instrument is an exceptional choice for concert performers who seek a guitar capable of delivering unparalleled musicality and emotional depth.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
