Overview

Teodoro Pérez was born in Soria, Spain in 1952. Later he moved to Madrid to study. In 1966, he began to work at the workshop of José Ramirez III where he learnt to make banduras, lutes and mandolins. In 1969 he was sent to the workshop in General Margallo Street in Madrid where he worked for some of the greatest guitar masters of that time and met famous artists like Andrés Segovia and Narcio Yepes. In 1991 he set up his own company and has since gained worldwide recognition.

The Perez "Antigua" model represents an exciting new offering from the renowned Perez workshop, crafted to meet the expectations of both modern guitarists and those with an appreciation for classic designs. This model is a harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics, making it an enticing choice for a broad range of guitar players.

This "Antigua" model has Madagascar rosewood back and sides, which not only imparts a stunning visual aspect but also contributes significantly to the tonal character of the guitar. African rosewood is known for its rich, resonant sound, adding depth and warmth to the guitar's overall tone.

The design of the "Antigua" pays homage to the legendary Torres guitar style, featuring a more compact body size reminiscent of early classical guitars. This nod to the past does not compromise the instrument's playability, as it still offers standard playing measurements (650mm string length and 51mm nut width), ensuring comfort and familiarity for the player.

Despite its smaller body, the "Antigua" delivers a sound that is full and romantic, characteristic of the finest Spanish guitars. Its quick attack adds to the dynamic range of the instrument, making it suitable for a variety of playing styles. The guitar's overall tonal quality is distinctly Spanish, with a richness and expressiveness that is highly sought after in classical guitar circles.

This guitar is a blend of modern Madrid-style instrument features with the compact feel of an "antigua" (old-style) guitarra .

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
