Overview
Vicente Arias (1833-1914) was born in Ciudad Real, in the south of Madrid. As Antonio de Torres did, he started as a cabinet maker and was self-taught as a guitar maker. He probably started to build guitars in 1860 and won many prestigious prizes around the world i.e. Buenos Aires, Madrid, Brussels and Barcelona. Famous guitarists as Francisco Tárrega played on his guitars.
This instrument was built in 1874 and the overall condition is great for such an antique guitar! The pictures are showing faithfully the few repaired cracks on the top, the back, and the side patch. The guitar is now perfectly stable, set up and delightful to play.
This guitar has THE sound. The timbre of this instrument is tremendously profound and complex, slightly dark. Even though it is small bodied, the volume and projection of the guitar are stunning. It is an inviting and transporting guitar that will seduce any collector or old-world sound lover. Hard-shell case included.
