Vasilina Shashkova – a promising young guitarist from Russia

Vasilina Shashkova represents the new generation of classical guitarists whose playing combines technical precision with expressive maturity. Born in Russia in the early 2000s, she began studying guitar at a young age and quickly stood out in national competitions for her sound quality and musical understanding.

Education and artistic formation

Vasilina began her formal studies at the Central Music School in Moscow, where she studied with teachers of the Russian guitar tradition known for their focus on tone and phrasing. She later continued her education at the Gnessin Academy of Music, working under leading professors and refining her solo and chamber performance skills.

Her artistic path has also been shaped by international masterclasses with figures such as Judicaël Perroy, Aniello Desiderio and Marco Tamayo, from whom she gained insights into both the European and Latin American traditions of classical guitar.

Competitions and recognition

Vasilina Shashkova has received numerous awards in Russian and international guitar competitions. Among her distinctions are prizes at the “Young Virtuosos of Moscow” competition, the International Guitar Festival in Kaluga and the Baltic Guitar Days. Her clear sound and controlled expressiveness have been repeatedly praised by juries and audiences alike.

Performances and repertoire

She regularly performs in recital series and youth festivals across Europe, including appearances at events in Germany, Poland and Italy. Her repertoire ranges from baroque transcriptions to 20th-century composers such as Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Brouwer.

In recent seasons, she has developed a special interest in Russian and Eastern European contemporary music, premiering works by young composers and contributing to the modern guitar repertoire.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
