Wulfin Lieske

Wulfin Lieske

After decades of engaging with music, I have returned to the roots: the roots of new beginnings. A constant remains the classic repertoire, with free improvisation expanding in ever-widening circles. There is also a contemporary blend of improvisation and chamber music, currently including piano, guitar, Persian tombak, didgeridoo, classic romantic arias and Mongolian overtone singing.

Throughout my musical career I have sought the pure, perfect guitar sound. Beauty incarnate, united with the composition, evokes another world and becomes a mirror of the soul. This aspiration also finds its worldly complement in the most famous of all guitars, La Leona, the masterpiece built in 1856 in Seville by Antonio de Torres. Modest in appearance yet beyond price, it has accompanied me in profound explorations of old and new musical dimensions. Ideal and idol alike for the modern guitar, its nature is absolute and timeless.

My next solo CD is dedicated to this instrument. The polyphonic music of the Italian High Renaissance, the Ricercari of Francesco da Milano, and Bach’s most famous solo work, the Partita in D minor with the Ciaccona, form the framework for my new composition In Luce. Combined with the choral work of the same name, they culminate in an Ode to Peace.

Performing at Siccas Guitars

Every classical guitarist who performs at Siccas Guitars brings a distinct musical path to the instrument — shaped by years of study, competition experience, and the particular musical tradition they have chosen to inhabit. The classical guitar demands sustained technical commitment and a deep engagement with a repertoire that spans from the Renaissance through to works written for living performers. It is an instrument whose full possibilities only reveal themselves over time.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
