Lattice-braced guitars have long been associated with the top end of the concert world — instruments built for projection and played on the biggest stages. With the Origin Lattice from our own Siccas Luthiers line, that technology arrives at a price point accessible to beginners, students and anyone who wants a serious instrument early in their journey.
In this video we present both versions of the Origin Lattice — spruce and cedar — and discuss what makes the model special.
What Is Lattice Bracing?
Traditional Spanish guitars use fan bracing: wooden struts fanned out under the soundboard, a system perfected in the nineteenth century. Lattice bracing replaces the fan with a criss-crossing grid, which allows the top to be built thinner and lighter while keeping its strength. The result, typically, is a guitar with more volume, quicker response and a strong, focused projection — qualities that made the design famous on Australian concert instruments and in halls around the world. Our article on fan-braced, double-top and lattice guitars explains the differences in detail, and if you are weighing the options, read Is a lattice guitar right for you?
The Origin Lattice: Spruce or Cedar
The Origin Lattice is available with a spruce or a cedar top. The spruce version leans toward clarity, separation and a brilliant treble; the cedar version answers with warmth, immediacy and a rounder voice. Neither is better — they are two personalities, and the right choice depends on your ear and your repertoire. Our guide to spruce versus cedar walks through the differences.
Three Scale Lengths: 63, 64 and 65 cm
Unusually for an instrument in this class, the Origin Lattice comes in three scale lengths: the standard 65 cm as well as 64 cm and 63 cm versions. Shorter scales reduce string tension and left-hand stretches, which can transform comfort for smaller hands, younger players and anyone with tension issues. This alone sets the model apart in its category — short-scale guitars are usually custom territory.
Who Is It For?
The Origin Lattice is aimed at players at the origin of their path — beginners buying their first serious guitar, students who need projection for auditions and ensembles, and hobby players who simply want a rewarding instrument. It delivers a kind of sound normally reserved for far more expensive instruments, in a package that is forgiving, responsive and easy to play.
You can find all versions in our shop: the Origin Lattice Spruce and the Origin Lattice Cedar, each also available in 64 cm and 63 cm scale lengths.
