Overview
Armin Gropp is a very renowned guitar maker whose family has been dedicated to the craftsmanship and artistic construction of high-quality concert guitars and historical plucked instruments as well as their restoration for several generations. With over 60 years of experience as a guitar maker, he taught the art of guitar making at the University for instrument making “Hochschule für Instrumentenbau Markneukirchen” from 1993 to 2013. His work has been featured in numerous trade magazines in recent years and most recently was the subject of the exquisitely crafted Orféo magazine, edited by Alberto Martinez. A very nice tribute to his work as well as that of his son Mario Gropp, with whom he has collaborated for more than 35 years.
This great replica of a French romantic guitar built around 1820 is a very fine instrument. The 640 mm scale length, as well as the wide neck, are very comfortable, especially for guitarists with rather wide fingers. There is also an ebony veneer on the back of the neck, which provides a particularly comfortable grip. The sound is clear and precise, rich in overtones with a very distinct timbre. A very beautiful romantic guitar, completely hand-built by a renowned craftsman, and sold in the original Goetz hard case.
