Overview
Bernd Holzgruber was born in 1939 in Velden at Wörthersee (Carinthia) in Austria. He studied guitar with Karl Scheit in Vienna and played his final examination in 1968 on a self-constructed instrument. Since then, he took care of Scheit’s instrument collection, which gave him the possibility to study master guitars as Robert Bouchet’s instruments. He is a pioneer in the construction of historical instruments and a creative luthier. He continuously developed his models during his 50-year career.
This guitar was built in 2017 and is wearing the number 203. It is a great example of B. Holzgruber’s versatility and craftsmanship. This modern guitar has a fine cedar top, braced in a very personal way that corresponds to the results of the master’s acoustic researches. This free-to-vibrate top is contrasting with the dense Bloodwood (Brosimum rubescens) back and sides to give a balanced, warm and subtle instrument. The cutaway and the black finish on the neck are giving to the guitar a fresh and modern character and this instrument would fit perfectly any crossover guitarist researching for a versatile guitar. The tuners are made by Sloane. A Hiscox Pro II case is included. The bridge as well as other marquetry details are built with CITES-certified Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra).

Classical Guitars
The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.Look all products of the collection -
