More details about the guitar

About the luthier

Carsten Kobs is an established German luthier based in Hamburg and one of the early pioneers of double-top construction in Germany. As part of the first generation of makers in the country to embrace this building technique, his guitars are distinguished by their remarkable lightness, sensitivity to touch, and generous volume. Over the years, his instruments have gained the trust of renowned guitarists such as Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, and Aniello Desiderio. With a steadily growing waiting list, Kobs' guitars are rarely available on the market, making this latest example an especially notable offering.

About the guitar

This 2026 double-top model exemplifies Carsten Kobs' refined approach to lightweight, high-performance construction. The cedar top, combined with Indian rosewood back and sides, produces a deep and voluminous bass response while retaining clarity and separation in the trebles. Notably, the upper register maintains a distinctly Spanish character—clear and present without becoming overly dark—offering a rare tonal balance within the double-top category.

The instrument is finished with a traditional French polish and equipped with Klaus Scheller tuners. With an air body resonance between E and F, the guitar speaks easily and responds with immediacy across all registers. At just under 1.4 kilograms, it is a physically light yet structurally confident concert instrument.
