Overview
Daniel Friederich was born on January 16, 1932. Although having the strong wish to play guitar, he had to face the shortage of money. However, at the age of 23, Friederich solved this dilemma by building his first guitar himself with the result of a copy of a Simplicio guitar. At the beginning Friederich was helped by his guitar teacher Aubin. Also after the early beginnings of guitar making, Friederich was inspired by the work of his friend Robert Bouchet whose ideas were also further developed by Friederich. For decades, Daniel Friederich has been one of the most important luthiers in the world. In 2015 he stopped to build guitars and sold all his tools.
At the beginning of his career as a luthier he built some spruce top guitars, which changed in the 1970’s when he started to devote himself mainly to the construction of guitars with a cedar top. This cedar top guitar was made by Friederich in 1982. The guitar has two repaired cracks below the bridge that were repaired by Yvon Le Moing. On the top you can find some marks. The tone is very rich tone of cedar and at the same time the clarity and the sustain of spruce. The original tuners are made by Fustero.
