Overview

François Leonard has been building classical guitars for almost 20 years now and lives and works in his workshop in Lorient, France. He had the opportunity to learn from many guitar builders in England and also worked in the Lakewood workshop in Germany. He received support from Dominique Field as an occasional mentor, so it is no surprise that the aesthetics and structural concept of his guitars are strongly influenced by French masters such as Daniel Friederich and Dominique Field.

The 2023 Francois Regis Leonard Lattice Bracing guitar is an exemplary musical instrument, engineered with a soundboard of spruce wood and a body composed of Indian rosewood. Employing a lattice bracing system, the guitar is characterized by an exceedingly responsive soundboard that yields a resonant and pronounced tonal quality. The trebles are notable for their substantial amplitude, displaying a balanced, mature timbre that contributes to the acoustical authenticity of the guitar.

The inclusion of a 64cm scale makes the instrument particularly adaptable to individuals with shorter fingers, thus enhancing the ergonomic interface between player and instrument. The guitar's dynamic range and variety of tonal colours allow for an accurate translation of the performer's intent, creating an engaging interaction with the musical piece being interpreted.

Every component of the instrument exhibits the scrupulous attention to detail of Francois Regis Leonard, demonstrating an impressive level of craftsmanship. In summary, the 2023 Francois Regis Leonard Lattice Bracing guitar, due to its advanced acoustical properties, optimized playability, and high-quality construction, is a desirable asset for guitarists prioritizing precision and performance.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
