Toby Rzepka - 2022 No. 85 63,5 cm Lattice

Overview

Toby Rzepka began crafting guitars more than 20 years ago in 2001 after studying with Walter Stanul at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He later went on to work with renowned US luthier Stephan Connor, and then studied Baroque and Renaissance luthiery in England at the West Dean College of Arts and Conservation, where he received a President's Award as well as a Distinction in 2008.

Toby Rzepkas sees classical guitar making as a constantly evolving discipline, both for the individual guitar maker and for the craft as a whole. Design and execution have changed significantly over the centuries-long history of the guitar. Honoring tradition means continuing to evolve while paying homage to the early masters of the art of guitar making. In the spirit of this balance, Toby combines contemporary sound design techniques with classical aesthetics. Therefore, when building a Rzepka classical concert guitar, art, science, and instinct come together to achieve the optimum proportion of balance, sound and feel.

It is clearly perceptible that Toby has taken great care regarding thickness, density, and stiffness in the selection of woods when making this instrument. The result is a superbly powerful guitar with a warm and rich tone that can be shaped well and responds splendidly. The side sound port gives the player very noticeable feedback and makes you feel almost wrapped up in the sound. A truly impressive instrument of outstanding quality and impressive vigor.

  • Classical guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
