Vassilis Digos
Vassilis Digos is a Greek classical guitarist born in Athens into a four-generation musical family. Trained to the highest level at two of Greece's leading conservatoires, he won first prize at the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition in 2012 and represented Greece at the Eurovision Young Musicians final in 2014 — the first classical guitarist to do so. He teaches at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Athens.
Background
Digos began his musical studies under his father Tassos Digos, himself a guitarist and composer. He completed his diploma with the highest honours at the Byron Conservatory in 2011, and his soloist diploma with the highest honours at the Athens Conservatory (Odeion Athinon) in 2014. He also studied at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and participated in masterclasses with Marcin Dylla, Álvaro Pierri, Sérgio Assad, Oscar Ghiglia, Carlo Domeniconi, and Vladimir Gorbach.
At the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition in Düsseldorf he won first prize in Age Group 2 in 2012. In 2014 he became the first classical guitarist to represent Greece at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition, performing in the Grand Final in Cologne — playing the Concerto in Re by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with orchestra. He has performed in Greece, Germany, Austria, Cyprus, Spain, and Italy, including at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall.
