Christopher Dean - 2023 No. 520 "Torres Model"

Overview

Christopher Dean was born in Lincoln, England in 1958 and set up his first workshop as a guitar maker in the Cotswolds in 1985. His instruments are highly regarded worldwide for their combination of aesthetic appearance and outstanding tonal qualities. As one of the leading international guitar builders, his masterpieces are played worldwide by renowned guitarists such as Eleftheria Kotzia, Tilman Hoppstock, The Eden Stell Duo, and many others.

This Torres model guitar, crafted by Christopher, embodies a perfect homage to the legendary guitar-making style of Torres, renowned for shaping the history of classical guitars. The instrument captivates with its low air resonance of D#, which imparts a deep, haunting quality to the basses, creating a sound rich in depth and emotion. Christopher has masterfully balanced this with lively and brilliant trebles, achieving a harmonious contrast that brings each note to life. The guitar features a beautiful spruce soundboard, a material known for its bright and clear tonal quality. Complementing this are the classic Indian rosewood back and sides, with a unique addition of Mexican Royal Ebony for the middle part of the back, adding both a visual and acoustic distinctiveness to the guitar. This blend of woods not only enhances the guitar's sound but also pays tribute to the rich traditional elements found in early 20th-century masterpieces.

In terms of condition, this pre-loved guitar is remarkably well-maintained, boasting an almost mint state with only superficial playing marks. A notable feature that enhances its elegance is the inclusion of luxurious Rodgers tuners. Renowned for their precision and aesthetic appeal, these tuners not only contribute to the guitar's functionality but also elevate its overall appearance. This Torres model by Christopher is more than just an instrument; it's a confluence of historical reverence, masterful craftsmanship, and aesthetic beauty, making it a cherished possession for any guitarist and a worthy homage to the legacy of Torres.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
