Kris Barnett - 2018 CF

Kris Barnett - 2018 CF

Overview

Kris Barnett started building classical guitars in Atlanta, GA (USA) in 2004. He is self-taught, and his inspiration comes from both traditional and contemporary sources. He learned a lot about guitar building, physics and acoustics over the past 14 years, talking and exchanging with speaker engineers, performance hall designers and fellow luthiers. Kris moved to Berlin in 2014 where he continues to focus solely on individually made classical guitars.
Kris Barnett’s guitars are built using a bracing system that is based on the Fibonacci sequence. This ratio is ubiquitous in nature, music, architecture, and art so it seemed fitting to adapt this ratio to the guitar. This “Phi” bracing was developed by himself in order to achieve his ideal of sound. It implements both cedar and spruce, what allows him a lot of freedom in shaping the guitar’s flexibility and sound. His instruments are very well balanced, sweet, and refined.
This particular guitar is made with well-seasoned Western Red cedar and Gabon ebony for the back and sides. The central motif of the rosette came from one of his good friend's olive oil business in Spain. Each of his instruments is completely handmade in his workshop, using no prefabricated components and making all of the rosettes, purflings, bindings, and other decorative elements by hand. This guitar is very special thanks to its amazing playability and reliable tone. The freedom of the sound and the richness of the timbre makes it a very fine concert guitar. Nicolò Alessi Tuners, hard-shell case is included. This guitar is CITES-free.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
