There is a particular moment in guitar making that never loses its tension: the first time a new model is played. In this video we pick up the Siccas Luthiers Continuum Lattice for the first time — the newest addition to our own workshop line.
Where the Continuum Sits in Our Line
Our Siccas Luthiers models each answer a different question. The Origin Lattice brings lattice construction to players at the beginning of their path. The Recital Traditional follows the classical Spanish school, and the Recital Contemporary combines a double top with lattice bracing for maximum projection. The Continuum Lattice continues that thinking — a lattice-braced concert instrument built for players who want the response and power of modern construction without giving up warmth.
What Lattice Bracing Does
Traditional Spanish guitars carry a fan of struts under the soundboard. Lattice bracing replaces that fan with a criss-crossing grid, which allows the top to be built thinner and lighter while keeping its structural strength. The usual result is more volume, a faster response and a focused projection that carries in a hall — the qualities that made the design famous on Australian concert guitars. Our article on fan-braced, double-top and lattice guitars explains the differences, and Is a lattice guitar right for you? helps you decide whether the design fits your playing.
Spruce or Cedar
Like our other models, the Continuum is offered with a spruce or a cedar top. Spruce tends toward clarity, separation and a brilliant treble; cedar answers with warmth, immediacy and a rounder voice. Neither is the better choice — they are two temperaments, and the decision belongs to your ear and your repertoire. Our guide to spruce versus cedar walks through what changes.
Hear It in Concert Repertoire
A first impression is one thing; real repertoire is another. You can hear the Continuum under a competition winner's hands in our article on Yuri Santangelo playing Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Caprichos de Goya No. 1 — music of sharp contrasts that shows what the instrument does with colour and attack.
